Health, Safety, and Comfort in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in Latin America. Of course like any big city, it is important to take certain precautions and use common sense in order to enjoy the urban experience and take advantage of everything the international capital has to offer. The medical facilities and personnel in Buenos Aires are very modern and professional. No vaccinations are legally required to enter the country. Argentina has a system of socialized medicine, in which basic services are free. Private clinics are inexpensive by Western standards. Buenos Aires is a safe city, but like in any big city in the world tourists should take some precautions. For example, do not leave bags or purses hanging from chairs in public places, and do not walk at night in poorly lit streets. Make a photocopy of your personal IDs and leave the originals at your hotel / home. Also take care because pickpockets and “moto robos”, purse snatching on wheels have become more commonplace. The increase in crime should not deter you, just exercise caution to avoid such situations. Buenos Aires has a never ending list of comfortable hostels, hotels, home stays, or B&B´s for visitors to stay in during their time here. The quality of living in Buenos Aires is very similar to those in western countries. Expect the same comforts you find at home, including: restaurants, spas, healthcare, cafe, markets, and shopping.
